Zurich Confirms Awards Season Appeal As It Holds Gala Screenings For ‘The Banshees Of Inisherin’, ‘Triangle Of Sadness’
The Zurich Film Festival (ZFF) has unveiled the seven titles in its Gala Premieres section showcasing auteur feature films with large audiences and awards season potential.
Selection includes Oscar-winning director Martin McDonagh’s Irish comedy-drama The Banshees of Inisherin, with Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Kerry Condon and Barry Keoghan.

The feature makes its world premiere in competition in Venice this year, followed by its North American premiere in Toronto.
Other contenders for the 2022 Venice Golden Lion include Argentinian director Santiago Miter Argentina, 1985about a group of lawyers who take on the country’s military dictatorship.
The selection also includes the European premiere of Netflix’s German adaptation of In the west, nothing is new by Edward Berger, which will have its world premiere in Toronto.
The gala program will also present the titles of the Cannes 2022 competition, winner of the Palme d’Or triangle of sadness and the South Korean drama from Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-eda BrokerFor who Parasite star Song Kang-ho won Best Actor.
There will also be world premieres for two films with strong local appeal: the social comedy from Lanzarote by German director Sönke Wortmann The Nachnameand the retirement age comedy by Zurich filmmaker Barbara Kulcsar Di.e. Goldenen Jahre.
“In recent years, the Zurich Film Festival has established itself as a springboard to awards season. Of the last 10 Best Picture Oscar winners, six were screened at ZFF,” said artistic director Christian Jungen.
“This year, we will once again present international auteur films that will later play a role in the race for the Oscars to over 120,000 visitors and 600 accredited media.”
The 18th edition of Zurich takes place from September 22 to October 2.
